Conquer Indecision

How to be decisive. Figure out what you want to want.

Conquer Indecision

You get to choose what you want to want.

How does indecision make you feel?

It is one of the most uncomfortable feelings for me. It is fear. It’s anxiety.

It took weeks for me to decide a name for my website. I felt that I had to get it just right. It seemed so important! Finally, I settled on the original name that my website builder suggested. Relief at last!

As a life coach, I find that often people don’t know what they truly want. Why? Perhaps fear of the unknown, fear of the effort, fear of not obtaining the desire, fear of making the wrong choice.

What if you make the wrong decision? Course-correct!

Decide.

Decisiveness and clarity are stabilizing and comforting, anxiety reducing.

What do YOU want to want?

One of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is, “What do I really want?”

Make the question fun and light-hearted. Ask with curiosity and playfulness.

Just for fun, try asking yourself what you would want if money and time were no obstacle. Dream big. What would your life look like. Imagine not a life of dopamine hits, but a life of joy and fulfillment.

Stop, right now, for 60 seconds and ask the question.

Where would you be? What would you be doing? Who would you be with? How would you be contributing?

What do you want to want?

One time I was fuming inside over something insignificant someone had done. I wanted to be angry. But, I didn’t like that feeling. I prayed for help to stop wanting to be angry. Within a few minutes the anger just left me.

We think we want to be physically fit, but we want that piece of cake more.

We think we want more quality time with our spouse, but we want to watch basketball more.

We think we want to save money, but we want that new dress more.

It takes quiet meditation to see what our deepest desires truly are.

Taking time to ponder is fun and enlightening. It can make you chuckle at yourself.

We seem to get what we truly desire.

If you want to want something, try this:

–Figure out how to make it fun.

–Say to yourself, “Of course I want this!”

–Visualize yourself in different scenarios.

–List the pros and cons.

–Take a good look at your values.

–Remind yourself that you can course-correct.

–Utilize good intentions and good inspiration.

–Pray for help.

You get to choose. Be decisive.
